Natural Beauty &
Woodland Habitats
Mote Park is popular with locals and visitors to the area as a recreational facility, with various forest walks and trails open to the public through Coillte owned lands. The woodland is home to the red squirrel and pine martin. During the month of May large sections of the forest floor are covered in bluebells indicating the site of an ancient woodland.
Architectural &
Historical Heritage
Mote Park was the seat of the Crofton Family from the 16th century up until the 1940s. The estate in Ballymurray previously consisted of c. 7000 acres and featured a big house built by the Crofton family in the later half of the eighteenth century. The house is now demolished but many architectural features still remain. Collections of photographs and written records survive detailing the story of the landlords and local community.
